In addition, Brenda’s crew turned into an ex-con, a witch, a banana….and a really cute bad dog!!
PREVIOUS NEWS:
Believing that Gray’s car was a bit faster than hers, the Grubbs pulled out all stops to try and find enough horsepower for Brenda to be competitive against one of the fastest AA/SA cars in the country. Bill, Brenda’s crew chief and husband, worked on the car and enlisted a few fellow racers to help make the final touches on the set up and push the car to the head of staging.
Once Bill’s part was done, it was all up to the driver. Brenda knew she needed to cut a light, hit the shifts, and keep the gas pedal down all the way to the finish line.
Knowing she needed to be on her game, she staged carefully and when the tree came down, cut a .016 light, grabbing .05 off the line to Gray’s .064 light. At the end of the track, it would be a hole shot win for Brenda, running 9.747 to Gray’s loosing 9.703.

Brenda took her National Parts Depot Super Stocker to the finals at the NHRA Spring Nationals held in Houston, TX.
In the finals, she was paired up against fellow Houston racer, Harvey “Speedy” Emmons. Speedy was able to overcome Brenda’s .002 light to take the win.
Brenda’s first Super Stock win was at the NHRA Spring Nationals in 2018.
Brenda Grubbs secured her third NHRA National Event win at the Texas NHRA Fall Nationals, in Ennis Texas on October 10, 2021.
The Stock Eliminator final round paired two Texas racers Jerry Emmons and Brenda Grubbs. With the help of her .004 light, Brenda ran closer to her 10.02 dial and secured her second national event win in Stock Eliminator and third overall.
Brenda was joined in the Winner’s Circle by her husband and Crew Chief, Bill and their Golden Retriever puppy, Charlie. It was Charlie’s first winner’s circle, and he enjoyed all the attention!
During the post-race interview, Brenda dedicated her win to good friend Dawn Carlson of Lithia, Florida. Dawn passed away from a horse-riding accident and her celebration of life was held the same weekend of the race. Since Brenda couldn’t attend the celebration, she was thrilled to be able to dedicate her win in Dawn’s name...
And that’s a wrap! Even with the year being crazy, the race season seemed to fly by. The Stocker had another good year with a National event runner-up, National event quarter final and a Divisional event quarter final. The Super Stocker continues to be a bit of a “problem child” but did manage to achieve a quarter final finish at the Houston Divisional. The #6 on the Stocker will be removed and replaced with #2020. For most, the number 2020 doesn’t illicit good memories. For Brenda, it’s been her Stock competition number for seventeen years. Last year, another racer who had the #2020 in Super Stock retired. He took the time to find Brenda and gifted her the #2020 for Super Stock!
The engines and transmissions are at the respective shops getting freshened. After years of running the car with original 69 Camaro seats, the Stocker is getting new “The Joie of Seating” seats. They are almost identical to the current Super Stocker seats. The new custom fitted seats will provide Brenda with additional safety and comfort.
The goal for the Super Stocker is to lose the title “problem child” beginning with the season opener. A few tweaks are being made to get the car to the performance level and consistency its capable of. Testing will happen on both cars prior to the start of the season. Bradenton, Florida has previously provided great weather and a great track for testing. Brenda is always ready to go back to her previous “home track” and enjoy the Florida sunshine.
The first scheduled race of 2021 will be at Belle Rose, LA
